Itinerary – Essences of Iceland

Day 1 • Reykjavik
Arrival at Keflavik airport and transfer by regular Flybussen service. Ask at the hotel reception during check-in for your welcome letter where you will find detailed information about the schedule and meeting point with your accompanying guide. Accommodation at the Hotel Klettur or similar.

Day 2 • Reykjavik
Breakfast. In the morning, panoramic tour of the city. With almost 24 hours of light during the summer, Reykjavik becomes the city that never sleeps. The city is surrounded by incredible landscapes where you can see natural and historical wonders. During the visit you will see the main attractions, such as the Cathedral, the Parliament and the port. Free time for lunch (not included), and then embarkation for a fantastic whale watching adventure.
Enjoy 3 hours at sea with an experienced crew of specially trained naturalists for Reykjavik’s Whale and Wildlife Research. In addition, the views of the city and the landscape of the bay from the sea make this experience even more special. Back to the hotel. Accommodation.

Day 3 • Reykjavik / Golden Circle / Vik
Breakfast. In the morning, departure for the famous “Golden Circle” excursion. During the tour you will visit Thingvellir National Park, an area of great historical and geological importance that has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this national park, the first parliament of Iceland was formed in the year 930. We will continue to the Geysir geothermal area, where the most active geyser in Iceland is located: Strokkur, which regularly erupts every 5-10 minutes.
Next we will approach the queen of Icelandic waterfalls: Gullfoss, to watch huge amounts of water fall into a deep, winding gorge. (The order of visits may vary). We continue to Vik. Dinner and accommodation at the Dyrholaey Hotel or similar.

Day 4 • Vik / Jökulsárlón / Vik
Breakfast. Depart along the southern coast to the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where we will embark on a small amphibious boat to navigate among the huge icebergs and enjoy the picturesque landscape of the lagoon. On the boat you’ll have the chance to taste 1,000-year-old ice and if you’re lucky you might even spot seals, while an experienced guide will provide insight into the geology of the lagoon. Back to the hotel. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 5 • Vik / Reynisfjara / South Coast / Blue Lagoon / Reykjavik
Breakfast. Departure to the charming black beach of Reynisfjara, located next to the small fishing village of Vík í Mýrdal. With its massive basalt stacks, roaring Atlantic waves, and breathtaking views, Reynisfjara is considered the best example of Iceland’s black sand beaches. In 1991, National Geographic declared Reynisfjara one of the 10 most beautiful non-tropical beaches on the planet. Along the southern coast you will see the Skogafoss and Seljalandfoss waterfalls and the Katla (located below the Mýrdalsjökull glacier) and Eyjafjallajökull volcanoes. Before arriving in Reykjavik, you will have the chance to relax in one of the most visited health spas in Iceland: the Blue Lagoon, located on the Reykjavans peninsula. Admission includes a towel, a drink of your choice, and a silicone mask. Arrival in Reykjavik during the night. Accommodation at the Hotel Klettur or similar.

Day 6 • Reykjavik
Breakfast. Transfer in regular service to the airport in Flybussen.
